Ajay K. Jacob

Associate Professor, M. Arch in Theory and Design

Ajay completed his bachelor’s degree from College of Engineering Trivandrum in 2010 and subsequently joined N.M. Salim and Associates in Calicut. He gained experience in various project typologies before pursuing master’s degree in 2012. Ajay graduated with top honours, earning the ‘Academic Excellence Award’ and ‘Best Thesis Award’ in Theory and Design at CEPT University, Ahmedabad in 2014. Since then, Ajay has associated with NMS on a range of institutional and master planning projects, including the national level invited competition for Indian Institute of Technology, Palakkad master plan. Ajay's independent architectural practice, ‘Thinking Dwelling Studio’, focuses on designing architecture that is rooted in history and unfolds over time. His study on Padmanabhapuram Palace reflects his fascination with the nature of 'unfolding' and won him a commendation at the Indian Institute of Architects' National Awards in 2015. Ajay has a keen interest in the architecture of the past and considers research and pedagogy as essential to nourish his practice. He has been associated with DGCOA since 2015. Ajay has contributed to the book 'Learning Architecture' by Prof. Kulbhushan Jain, published in 2019, and regularly reviews designs at prestigious architecture schools.
